November Letter 2020

Wednesday 4th November 2020

Dear Comber Grove Community,

As the second lockdown begins, I would like to make it clear to all parents and carers that school will continue to be open as usual.  We hope that this offers some stability for you and your children as the pandemic continues.

We are keeping windows slightly open in classrooms to ensure that there is adequate ventilation.  This is said to be the best defence against the virus.  We will also keep the air moving by keeping classroom doors open.  We will obviously monitor this closely in tandem with making sure your children stay warm.  If the weather continues as it has done today, it may be time to get the thermals out!

A reminder to please make sure you write your child’s name on their school jumper.  We always tell children to put them on their peg, on the back of their chair or in their bag if they take it off.  Please remind them not to take them off outside and then leave them outside – especially Years 3 – 6.

I would like to draw your attention to the ‘Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg’ scheme which is a scheme  that helps families on low incomes to buy fresh fruit and vegetables to give their children a healthy start.  Please check out the ‘Rose Vouchers’ poster for more information on the noticeboards or the plan text below this letter.  The Scheme is run by the ‘Alexandra Rose Charity’.

We have two more school values to reveal and then we are done!  The next step is to rename our classes in line with role models that inspire us.  We will use Black British History as a driver for this.   If you have any ideas please message me on Class Dojo.  The class names will be chosen as part of a competition this half term.  I cannot wait to see what the community come up with.

I have included some upcoming dates for you below.  I will add to it as and when!

Would you like to buy more fruit and vegetables?

The Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project helps families on low incomes to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and supports them to give their children the healthiest possible start.

The scheme will:

  • Give you vouchers to use at East Street Market and some stalls in Peckham to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • Get you more involved with your local Children’s Centre.
  • Make it easier for you to meet other local families and parents.
  • Tell you about what’s happening locally to support healthier, happier families.

Who is it for?
The project is for pregnant women and families with young children* who live in either SE1, SE5 or SE17 and:

  • Already receive Healthy Start vouchers or
  • Are on a low income or
  • Are refugees and asylum seekers (NRPF)

* You must be at least 10 weeks pregnant, or have a child under 5 who is not yet in Reception at school.

How does it work?

  • Once registered with the scheme, you will receive four £1 Rose Vouchers per week for every eligible child until they start in Reception, and 6 vouchers for 0-1 year olds. You also receive 4 Rose Vouchers for each sibling at primary school, as long as there is a child not yet in Reception class who is eligible.
  • You may use these vouchers at stalls in East Street Market or Peckham who have a ‘Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg’ banner.

To find out whether you can receive vouchers and how to register, please phone 020 7740 8070 or email: childrenscentre@1stplace.uk.com
